Peoria Public Schools Fantastic Facts

  • Enrollment increased by 346 students. In 2006-2007 our enrollment was 13,961. In 2007-2008 enrollment is 14,307.

  • Growth of low income students was much less in 2006-2007 than in previous years. 2006-2007 saw only a .5% increase in low income students, compared to previous years. 3.3% in 2005-2006; 3.1% in 2004-2005 and 2.5% in 2003-2004. The percent of low income students for 2006-2007 was 69.3%.

  • Attendance rate increased .6% in 2006-07 for a total rate of 91.5%.

  • Chronic truancy rate decreased 3.2% in 2006-2007 compared to the previous year. 2005-2006 rate was 8.3%; 2006-2007 rate was 5.1%. This is the 2nd lowest rate we have had in 13 years. The state average chronic truancy rate is 2.5%.

  • Mobility rates are the lowest in 17 years. Although the mobility rate increased slightly in 2006-2007 to 30.1% compared to 2005-2006 rate of 28.9%, these are the two lowest percentages in 17 years.

  • Graduation rate is highest in 18 years. Our graduation rate jumped from 83.1% in 2005-2006 to 89.9% in 2006-2007. This is a significant increase from 1999-2000, where the District graduation rate hit an all-time low at 68.6%.

  • Dropout rate is lowest in 16 years and is below the Illinois state average. Our drop out rate in 2006-2007 was 3.3% with the state average at 3.5%. 2005-2006 rate was 5.9%; 2004-2005 was 10%; and in 2003-2004 was 12%.
